Need help configuring Report Server permissions

I can't seem to hit on the right combination of roles/persimssions to
set against the Report Server in order to allow my localhost
implementation to access/browse/upload reports. Is there some deFacto
setting(s) that I should be using?
After installation I was able to upload and browse. The trouble
started when I tried to instantiate a ReportingService object (I
wanted to be able to programatically browse the available reports -
previously uploaded). When I tried this I got an insufficient
privilege error for my generic internet user account. After having
tried a number of combinations I'm really stuck.
Any help appreciated! (how-to links, diagrams, recipes,...)
GlennGlenn,
The right question in this case is "Under what identity am I trying to call
the RS Web service?". For example, if it is from a WinForm app, you need to
set proxy credentials to DefaultCredentials, as follows:
rs.Credentials = System.Net.CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials
Please review the "Using the SOAP API in a Windows Application" and "Using
the SOAP API in a Web Application" for more info.

Hope this helps.

> Glenn|||Teo, thanks for the response. I have read several of these how-to
articles (and have attempted to implement the code for my
application/WEB page). That's where I encounter the problems.
The article, which you reference, suggests adding impersonation to the
web.config... - already did that. It suggests setting the
ReportingService object credentials to the Default... - already did
that. There's not much else in the article (or others). What I'm
looking for is a little expertise on WEB/IIS 6.0 setup for using the
SQL Reporting Services in a XP Pro, VB.Net 1.1, SQL 2000 environment.
This can't that big a deal - but I'm swamped with other project issues
and have not had the time to research. I'm hoping that someone has
already gone through this and is willing to do some knowledge-sharing.
Thanks,
Glenn

What is the exact error message you get? Is it access denied, or is it
'USERNAME does not have the required permissions' type of error? Do
you have authentication in web.config set to windows and deny
anonymous acess?

Need Help (replication)

Dear All,
I have 2 DB Server, OLTP Server and Report Server.
I want to replicate some tables from OLTP Server to Report Server.
The distributor Database is on Report Server bcos I don't to slow down
the performance of OLTP Server.
But every time the replication is running, the error (see attachement)
always occur on OLTP Server.
Pls somebody give my some suggestion.
Thanks
Robert LieRobert,
Are there triggers on the tables being replicated? If so, do the triggers
need to be executed again on the subscriber? Not sure if this is the cause
of your error but it might be related.

You're right, some tables being replicated have triggers on them.
The problem is I need the triggers to be executed on OTLP server since
the triggers are needed to maintain data integrity of applications that
run on OLTP server.
Do you have alternatives solution on top of that?
Thanks

IIS was configured so that the ASP_NET's webuivalidation.js wasn't able
to load. This somehow prevented any of the buttons on the ReportServer
to work.
And I fixed it based on the same advice given to you by Bruce here. I
think what he means you should TURN ON Anonymous access.
Give this a try...see if you can point your browser to:
http://your-root/aspnet_client/system_web/1_1_4322/WebUIValidation.js
and see if you can see it. (assuming you're using the same version
ASP.NET I am).
I fixed it by going into my IIS settings -> Directory Security -> and
checking the box "Anonymous Access."

Need help - Server Error in '/ReportServer' Application

I created a report project with the sales report followed by the SQL Server tutorial. But when I tried to publish a report. I got the following problem:

1. The connection could not made to the report server http://machinename/ReportServer

2.

Server Error in '/ReportServer' Application.

Configuration Error

Description: An error occurred during the processing of a configuration file required to service this request. Please review the specific error details below and modify your configuration file appropriately.

Parser Error Message: An error occurred loading a configuration file: Failed to start monitoring changes to 'c:\inetpub\wwwroot' because access is denied.

Source Error:

[No relevant source lines]

Source File: c:\inetpub\wwwroot\web.config Line: 0

Could anyone give me some ideas to fix this problem?

Thanks

I had a similar problem (same error, different appication) accessing web.config. Permissions on the "wwwroot" folder were denying access. I'm still trying ro figure out which permission it was, but resetting them without restrictions circumvented the error. Also, I put a web.config in the wwwroot folder, but I don't know that this really helped anything yet.

Late response.

|||

Can you please let me know if you see any errors in the application or system event log when this problem happens? Also is this on a Windows 2003 server or Windows 2000 server?

This is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights

Thanks.

I have seen no errors in the eventlog pertaining to: "An error occurred loading a configuration file: Failed to start monitoring changes to 'c:\inetpub\wwwroot\web.config' because access is denied."

Conditions: XP PRO w/ IIS v5.1; Installed ASP.NET v2.0.50727 (among other software) as suggested by: http://www.asp101.com/articles/sample_chapters/sitepoint_byoaspnet20/chapter1.asp. Used selected startup>>no startup items.

In browser, http://localhost/mypage.htm opens fine. Any *.aspx received error. I could "view [the *.aspx] in browser" output from within Visual Web Development 2005 Express Edition, but not directly in the browser.

HTM worked; ASPX would not. Modified permissions on the files and child folders but could not access web.config at "wwwroot." Threw the web.config from virtual directory into "wwwroot," removed restrictions (permissions) on "wwwroot," , and now I can load my *.aspx from the browswer: http://localhost/mypage.aspx. or http://localhost/virtualfolder/mypage.aspx.

On "wwwroot," I checked "Inherit from parent ...Include these entries...," but did not check "Replace permission entries on all child..." I did not modify any Services logon. Local Security Policies includes Administrators for "Impersonate..." But nothing worked until, and the last thing I did was, modify permissions on the "wwwroot" folder.

This may not apply to you (e.g., different O/S, versions, etc.). I know I have to reset permissions on "wwwroot" for security, but I haven't had time to narrow that down. If you know what the permissions should be for "wwwroot," PLEASE REPLY.

Need Help - Quick simple implementation of code

Hi,
I am looking for a very simple and straighforward way of calling an already
deployed report from ASP.net. I simply need a hyperlink that displays the
report on screen if that is possible.
Any help would be tremendously appreciated.Hi Dan.
You can download this ASP.NET demo, it would help you rendering the report.

You might want to check the Virtual Directories and see if the
permissions are set to anonymous. To do this, right-click My Computer

Information Services >> Web Sites >> Default Web Site >> right-click
the Reports/ReportServer virtual directories >> select Properties >

In fact, it is checked already. Integrade window
authentication, digest authentication ... and basic authenitcation are
checked as well. Only .net passport atuthentication and default domain and

Need expression help ASAP

I have a report in ssrs where it has a colum with dates in it I has and other colum with either a $0.00 amount or and amount paid. I need a colum which which calculates only the number of days from the date colum that when the other colum =0 it gives me the total number of days. VS.net SQL 2005 SSRS C#

example of what needed:

Invoice amount | Date of Invoice| Amount received | number days past due

$100.00 06/01/2007 0.00 18 days ( this is what I need)

can some one explain.

Here are my expressions

FormatCurrency(Fields!Grossamtbilled.value)

FormatDateTime(Fields!EXPR1.Value,2)

FormatCurrency(Fields!RCVAMOUNT.Value)

I'm not sure what expression you would use when creating a report, but it would be fairly easy to do it in the original SQL Statement (by using a mixture of the CASE and DateDiff functions).

HI,cpowers:

Would you please clarify more about your requirement?

Thanks in advance!

Need current date in ssrs expression

I have a report which has a date like 01/05/2007 for a bill date. I need to create and expression which will take the current date and subtract the number of days from todays date and give a total number of days. How do I get thew current date in the expression.

the billed date expression is =FormatDateTime(Today()) - FormatDateTime(Fields!BILLDATE.value,2) I can not get this to work

Any help would be appreciated

You can execute code within a Report. You may need to do this although I think the reporting expressions should support what you are trying to accomplish. This is a good resource for you anyway though:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/920769

Hope this helps!

Matt

Thanks for the link but my expression isnt working in the report can you tell me what is wrong with it.

|||

HI,cpowers:

You can try this expression:

= DateDiff("d",Fields!ShippedDate.Value ,Today() )

If i misunderstand you about your question, please feel free to correct me and i will try to help you with more information.

I hope the above information will be helpful. If you have any issues or concerns, please let me know. It's my pleasure to be of assistance

Rex Lin,

That works great thanks.. What I am tring to accomplish is a 1-30 31-60 61-90 days aging

I tried to di the following expression-

=DateDiff("d",Fields!ShippedDate.Value,Today()) < 30 for the 1-30 day

=DateDiff('d".Fields!ShippedDate.Value, Today()) >30<61 for the 31-60 day I am getting a true or false instead of the days is there away to modify the expression to give only the number of days that fall within the range

|||

HI,cpowers:

Hope this will meet your requirement:

=iif( DateDiff("d",Fields!ShippedDate.Value,Today())<30,DateDiff("d",Fields!ShippedDate.Value,Today()),"out of range")

|||I am tring to get a total for the amount owed that is over 30days but under 60days. My expression just gives me the word True does not give me the total MASRCVAMOUNT $$ in that date range. Can come one explain or help with expression...

=FormatCurrency(Sum(Fields!MASRCVAMOUNT.Value))=DateDiff("d",Fields!Expr1.Value ,Today())>31<60

I also need to no how to get total MASRCVAMOUNT over 120 days

=iif( DateDiff("d",Fields!ShippedDate.Value,Today())<30,DateDiff("d",Fields!ShippedDate.Value,Today()),"out of range") How would I sum the MASCVAMOUNT in this date range and how can I select a between 61-91days these are my two real issues. I have the dates working.

Thanks for all the help I do appreciate it

|||

HI,cpowers:

It seems that the goal you need to achieve is not easily for expression. How about deal with it in the sql statement?

sum(case when timespan between 30 and 59 then shipvia end )as ThirtyToSixty

Rex Lin,

I am having similar problems, except all I want is to substract current date from the promised date (date that is was suppose to ship) and be able to view only the negetive data. I tried =GETDATE()-Fields!PROMISE.Value

but it would give me an error, then I tried the format you gave cpowers

=DateDiff("d",fields!Promise.Value, Today()) but all it did was give me one number. Am I doing it wrong? What do you recomend? Please advice

Thanks

Need code examples of how to call SSRS reports from winforms app

I'm writing a vb.net winforms app and need to call up reports from SSRS. I
also need to pass in secure parameters into the report and I don't want to
pass the credentials if I don't have to. I was hoping I could call my own
web service where I can pass encrypted data to my web service which would
contain the parameters. then a business object on the server could generate
the credential needed by SSRS and pass both the credentials and decrypted
parameters into the report. Problem is I don't know how to get the report
back to the client. One idea was to render the report on the server side
and then convert its html into a byte stream and pass the byte stream as a
return value for my web service. Then my winform client could convert the
byte stream into an html document. However, I have no idea if this is
possible and need examples for the various parts.
can someone please give me advise (and preferable links to code examples) on
how to solve this problem?
Thanks.

| I'm writing a vb.net winforms app and need to call up reports from SSRS.
I
| also need to pass in secure parameters into the report and I don't want
to
| pass the credentials if I don't have to. I was hoping I could call my
own
| web service where I can pass encrypted data to my web service which would
| contain the parameters. then a business object on the server could
generate
| the credential needed by SSRS and pass both the credentials and decrypted
| parameters into the report. Problem is I don't know how to get the
report
| back to the client. One idea was to render the report on the server side
| and then convert its html into a byte stream and pass the byte stream as
a
| return value for my web service. Then my winform client could convert the
| byte stream into an html document. However, I have no idea if this is
| possible and need examples for the various parts.
|
| can someone please give me advise (and preferable links to code examples)
on
| how to solve this problem?
|
| Thanks.

Need Article/Information - 2 databases 1 report

Hi All,

I need to find information on how to get two oracle databases data into one report. The two databases are not really a like, althought they do "talk" to each other and pass data to each other, and their tables are not the same. One is a manufacturing database, the other financial. If anyone can point me in the right direction, that would be great.

I am working with the newer 2005 products.

Thanks in advanced,

Kerrie

Kerrie,

i can't tell you how to collect data from Oracle, but i can tell you how to combine two streams of data. You need to create two reports - one being the main report, the other being a simple one, the simple one then serves as a sub report inside the main report. For instance, if you are showing the data in a table in the main report, then you can embed the subreport in a table cell, and pass values into it as parameters.

Or you can use the existing database link between the two databases (you said they are talking already), and just return all the data in one query. This will make the query slower, but the report will be way easier.

Sluggy,

Thanks for the reply, Thats what I will do!

Thanks again,

Kerrie

Need Answer PLS - excel export file size changed on re-save

I have a report that ran and returns a large amount a data. When I export the report to excel it takes 3 minutes to export. The file size when I open the xls file is 24.1MB. I choose save as and give it another name ... then open the xls I just saved and the size is 9.79MB. Why is the file size different on the re-saved file than the originally exported file? This was reported by a user and I didnt believe the file size would change until I tried it myself ...sorry ... forgot to add that I am running RS2005 sp1|||If you have a lot of

string values in the report that can be represented as single byte strings,

that’s probably where Excel is making a difference. In Reporting Services we

always write strings as 2-byte Unicode, but Excel will always try to compress to

single byte when possible.
