Need Help 1505 Error
I have a SQL 6.5 Server running on Service Pack 5a with a hotfix.
select @.@.version returns:
Microsoft SQL Server 6.50 - 6.50.451 (Intel X86)
Jul 1 1999 01:11:25
Copyright (c) 1988-1997 Microsoft Corporation
I am getting an error something like this:
Error 1505 Create unique index aborted on duplicate key. Primary key is '847474 '
When this is happening is after copying some data and during the creation of an index. I have 2 tables one called ITEM_INVENTORY the other ITEM_INVENTORY_WORK. The only difference between them is that the WORK table has an identity column.
I use a stored procedure to perform the following steps:
1. Truncate the table ITEM_INVENTORY
2. Drop all the indexes on ITEM_INVENTORY
3. Copy the data from the ITEM_INVENTORY_WORK table to the ITEM_INVENTORY table in 10000 row chunks using:
BEGIN TRAN
INSERT INTO ITEM_INVENTORY
SELECT <(COLUMN LIST)>
FROM ITEM_INVENTORY_WORK
COMMIT TRAN
4. Recreate all the indexes.
During step 4 (recreate indexes) the process fails and returns a 1505 error while creating the UNIQUE index: CREATE UNIQUE INDEX ITEM_INVENTORY_idx1 ON dbo.ITEM_INVENTORY(IC_ITEM_NO, CORP_CODE)
Now here is the kicker. There are no duplicates. I've checked and re-cheked and there are no duplicate records. I think this may be a bug, but I don't know. Has anyone encountered this problem and have any ideas on how to solve it?It's not about duplicare records - it's about duplicate IC_ITEM_NO, CORP_CODE.
Run this:
select IC_ITEM_NO, CORP_CODE
from ITEM_INVENTORY
group by IC_ITEM_NO, CORP_CODE
having count(*) > 1
See what It returns. There are no miracles|||Hi I ran the query:
select IC_ITEM_NO, CORP_CODE
from ITEM_INVENTORY
group by IC_ITEM_NO, CORP_CODE
having count(*) > 1
and I get nothing back. Like I said no duplicates.
The other crazy thing is the WORK table is truncated and recreated each day in a similar way but it does not error when recreating the index.
Regards

select * into WORK
drop IDENTITY column

I had a similar problem (same error, different appication) accessing web.config. Permissions on the "wwwroot" folder were denying access. I'm still trying ro figure out which permission it was, but resetting them without restrictions circumvented the error. Also, I put a web.config in the wwwroot folder, but I don't know that this really helped anything yet.

Error: 823, Severity: 24, State: 11
I/O error 33(The process cannot access the file because another process has locked a portion of the file.) detected during write at offset 0x000002983a0000 in file 'e:\MSSQL\data\tempdb.mdf'..
Error: 15457, Severity: 0, State: 1
Seems like a bad disk. It is a Raid 0 drive.
I have asked a drive check to be performed for this drive. I am not sure if it can be done while the SQL Server is running.
I am thinking of shrinking the tempDB and let it grow again so that it may not expand on the bad sectors.
I could also move the tempDB to another drive temporarily, but would require me to reboot our production server.
Also, my concern is that if the drive is bad, it will affect the other system databases as they are sitting on the same drive. The sytem databases have passed integrity checks over the weekend and seem to be okay.
Anyone has any ideas on what steps I should take or the best way to resolve this problem. Not too sure, but you could check to see that virus scan and any backup software remembers to ignore *.MDF, *.LDF, and *.NDF files. Also you may want to check on tempdb to make sure that auto-close is off (though, I am not sure you can set it to auto-close). Good luck, and let us know if you find the problem.|||Sorry to get back late here, we had some other problems I was working on. Well, our hardware people said that there was nothing wrong with the drive in question. So, it had to be the tempdb problem.
I ran the DBCC CheckDB with All_ErrorMsgs and it returned me no errors. There were no non-system objects in the tempdb and the space used in the 35GB tempdb database was only 4MB. Looking at the time it required to run and the results, it seems to me that the the DBCC command checks only on the space that has been allocated to the tables, etc. So, I ran the DBCC CheckDB with Physical_Only with the hopes that it will scan all the pages even if they are empty, but it came with the same results. No errors.
So, I restarted the server in minimum configuration mode (at the dos prompt with "SQLServr.Exe -c -f" and then using Query Analyzer, I altered the database files (mdf and log) size of the tempdb using the 'alter database' command. And restarted the SQLServer.
If this had not worked, I was going to try to use "DBCC ShrinkFile" and shrink the tempdb database files.
Thanks for your help.

Welcome to use MSDN Managed Newsgroup!
From your descriptions, I understood you encounter error message 7391 when
executing query on Linked Server. If I have misunderstood your concern,
please feel free to point it out.
First of all, please make sure you are not encounter the scenario as the
following KB described.
You may receive a 7391 error message in SQL Server 2000 when you run a
distributed transaction against a linked server after you install Windows
Server 2003 or Windows XP Service Pack 2
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/839279
Also, make sure you have made MS DTC correctly configured for network access
You receive error 7391 when you run a distributed transaction against a
linked server

Secondly, I have noticed you mentioned "there is an update trigger to to
update another record in another server". If you are executing the query
that won't active the trigger, will it also reproduce this error message?
Are you executing the stored procedure in a transtion? If you execute the
stored procedure directly, will it reproduce this error message?
If you have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to let me know. We
are always here to be of assistance!

Thanks for your reply.
Does your two server on the same domain or on the trusted domains? Does the
linked server is also SQL Server or other database? Execute the query
directly on the destination server, will the query work and active the
trigger?

My Backup Exec software can't do a backup of this database.
Assistance will be much appreciated. Can you do a native backup? If so then I would give the makers of Backup
Exec a call.

[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]Communication link failure
SQL Error 10054 SQLSTATE=01000
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server] [DBNETZIB]ConnectionWrite(Send())
hello,
We are getting the above errors from sql 2000 SP3.
it only happens when people return to their workstations and the screen
saver has turned on.
thank you,
OskarHi Oskar
Go to Control Panel / Power Options and set System Standby to Never.
The screen saver will continue to appear, but the network card should
not be turned off anymore.

Need a Quick Answer
HTH, Jens K. Suessmeyer.
http://www.sqlserver2005.de|||This is the full error string 'Error in from datahost.Prime.cmdlmport_Click: [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Mananger] driver does not support this function. This is an import of data files from one server to our server. This seems to be an unknown error as it happens every night during the import process and it has never happened since our recent upgrade to SQL 2005.|||Did you try the new ODBC Driver from the SNAC drivers ? After installing the SQL Native Client you will have to change your connecting string a bit to make the application to use the new ODBC libraries. Connectionstring examples can be found on the www.connectionstrings.com site.

Need a list of Error Code
Hi,
When we configure a transformation to redirect the error record, SSIS gives 2 columns: 'error code' and 'error column'. In one article, I have seen how to get the error description using the 'error code'.
My questions are,
- Where I can get list of all possible error codes? 'error column' gives the id of the column. How to get the name of the 'error column'?
Thanks.
Basically you need to know the metadata of the normal output, not that easy, but simon has wrapped this up in a Tx.

Some related info -
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms345163.aspx
The SSIS error codes are listed in BOL. I also have them on my wiki, because BOL only got them in an update and I wanted them before that, and also you can add notes on the errors on the wiki.
