Navigation: page position
I have this "minor" problem...
This is the situation:
a list of orders is shown
I scroll downwards in my page to look for a certain order
I click on the order to see the order details (jump to the detail
report)
use the back button to go back to the list of orders (previous page)
now I'm at the top of my result again, instead of my last position of
the order I took a look at
This behavoir is really annoying! I did not have this behavoir of
popping back to the top of the list with RS2000. It started with
RS2005.
Anyone having the same problem? Even better... a fix or workaround?
Kind Regards, VivianKICK
=> anybody ?|||Bump... I still haven't found a work around :-(
Anybody ?|||Hi Vivian,
did you find any solution about this issue?,
any help will be appreciated.
Thank you

Navigation: Jump to URL
I have been trying for a while to get one field in my report to link to
a page on my local server. I have looked in the older post as well as on
the internet and have found so examples that just don't work for me. I
am running SRS SP2 and using an MSCRM database as my source. The code I
am using is as follows: = "javascript:void(window.open('http://crm/SFA/leads/edit.aspx?id={' &
Fields!leadid.Value.ToString & '}'))". I am incredibly new to javascript
and sort of know what this code does but I don't know if I am using the
function correctly and if this function will even work. When I use the
hyperlinked field, my screen flickers and nothing happens. So any help
you can offer will be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Jeff JonesYou are assembling a string here. Change it to this:
= "javascript:void(window.open('http://crm/SFA/leads/edit.aspx?id={'" &
Fields!leadid.Value.ToString & "'}'))".
You need the additional double quotes.

Thank you for pointing that out. Though, after I change my syntax, I
still can't get the code to work. Could this be an explorer setting? I
have tried this same code but with google.com replaced with my crm url.
My screen flashes and windows makes a 'ding' sound and then nothing.
Looked in the event logs. Nothing. Looked at the task manager as I was
firing the link. Nothing. I don't really know what is happening with
this. Any other suggestions would be helpful.
Thanks,
Jeff|||Here is a working one for me. Take the following line and cut and paste it
into the jump to url.
= "javascript:void(window.open('http://www.google.com','_blank'))"
Note that you have to have SP1 or SP2 installed for this to work.

I have learned that spacing matters with this particular section of the
program. The syntax of the day is: ="javascript:void(window.open('http://crm/SFA/leads/edit.aspx?id={"&
Fields!leadid.Value &"}'))". There is a space between the amperstands
and the Fields name. Any thing less than this exact syntax will not
work. Also the link will not work in the VS dev. env. The report needs
to be deployed before it will work worth a darn. Since leadid is a GUID
and SRS does not play nice with GUIDs, you need to use <CAST(Lead.LeadId
as nvarchar(80)) as leadid> when creating your dataset. Follow all of
this and you will have a nice day.

navigation question
i need to add a BACK button to some reports.
I have a report that has a hyperlink to another report. When I click it, I go to that other report, but because I cannot open it into a new page, I got to be able to return somehow to the initial page. In this second report I added a row, I have embedded the picture of a button that reads GOBACK, but for the Navigation property I do not know how to specify navigation to the previous page.
Anybody, any ideas?
thanks,
kowalskyTry javascript:history.go(-1) for a url-based parameter|||Thanks for the tip.
Could you be a littel more specific, though? I don't understand what you mean: what is the synthax for the javascript code? where do i create the url-based parameter?
Right now my second report is already based on a parameter (but this doen't help).
The place where I should try to insert the javascript is probably the Hyperlink action section in the Navigation tab in the button's properties.
Am I close?
Thanks,
kowalsky|||Hi kowalsky,
I haven't tested this, but you should be able to create a new textbox, and under advanced properties add the javascript in the URL navigation section. It should be something like javascript:history.go(-1) to go back a page.
Another solution may be to create a bookmark link with a reference to the page number property.
Navigation problem
region field. This works fine in the development environment (i.e. visual
studio), but when I deploy the reports and try it online on the live
environment, the 2nd report does not even open - i.e. goes to 2nd report
screen, but no report being generated and just blank report window. Nothing
happens.
I have SP2 on developer side, but not on server yet. Could this be the
issue? Other reports that use navigation (but created in SP1 development
environment) work.
Ideas?Does your production server has all the latest versions of your custom dlls.

Message posted via http://www.sqlmonster.com|||I found out that the problem is that the 2nd report must be runnable right
away, (i.e. cannot prompt user to enter any parameter values). Thus, I had
to give some parameters default values. This is not good. I am guessing,
using jump to URL would solve this problem, but is not a satisfactory
solution.

parameters of the second report to fields or parameters or really any
expression. You are right, you can use jump to URL if you are wanting the
user to fill in additional parameters. Not sure why that is not a
satisfactory solution. A little more work but after you have one jump to url
working the second time you do it is easier.

navigation on subtotal
Unfortunately, the generated subtotal column also have a link but it has a primary key of whatever the first row is, which shouldn't have a primary key. So I can drill-through the subtotal but it returns the wrong result.
I have not been able to override the subtotal to specify a new link with different paramters.
Anybody can help would be great!
Thanks.
In the place where you define the drillthrough action with its parameters, you have to use the InScope(...) function to determine if your are in a subtotal or not.
Please check the MSDN documentation about the InScope function:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/RSCREATE/htm/rcr_creating_expressions_v1_0jmt.asp
With InScope you can determine the current scope of a matrix cell. Note: a matrix cell is "in scope" of column and row groupings, so you need at least two InScope function calls in the case where you have one dynamic row and one dynamic column grouping. E.g.
=iif(InScope("ColumnGroup1"), iif(InScope("RowGroup1"), "In Cell", "In Subtotal of RowGroup1"), iif(InScope("RowGroup1"), "In Subtotal of ColumnGroup1", "In Subtotal of entire matrix"))

Use the InScope function as described earlier in this thread.
For the cells, you would generate the desired hyperlink or drillthrough link. For subtotal scope you would just return Nothing (i.e. VB equivalent of null) in the IIF arguments. If a hyperlink expression evaluates to Nothing for a particular cell, the hyperlink action will be removed entirely.

The problem is still not solved. I still want the subtotal number shows on rightmost column and bottom row. The way that you told me, I will get empty column and row on the end. Let me try an example here:
co1 col2 col3 subtotal
row1 3 5 7 15
row2 1 2 3 6
subtotal 4 7 10 21
3, 5, 7, 1, 2, and 3, will have a hyperlink to jump to another report show detailed page, but I wanto 4, 7, 10, 15, 6, and 21 to show the number but disable the hyplerlinks.

|||Yes, that should work fine.
For the matrix cell, you use an expression that shows calculates the value (e.g. =Sum(Fields!A.Value)).
Then, on that textbox add a navigation action. Only for the hyperlink expression you would use the complex expression using IIF calls and InScope calls.
Hope this clarifies it.

Navigation on Matrix Subtotal
Here's a sample matrix:
Men Women Total
Full Professor 36 12 48
Assoc. Professor 16 9 25
Assistant Professor 11 14 25
Total 63 35 98
Now, it's easy enough to make the values clickable so that somebody can drill down to a report that shows detail about the people. I have also discovered how to turn off clickability on the totals. However, what I really want is for the totals to be clickable so that, for example, if I click on the 63, I see a report that shows all men. Likewise, If I click on the 48, I want to see a report that shows all Full Professors. What currently happens when the totals are clickable is that if I click on the 63, I get all men who are full professors (36 records instead of 63). If I click on the 48, I get all Full Professors who are men. (36 records instead of 48).
Is there any way to send different parameters (or even no parameters) to the secondary report if the subtotals are clicked instead of the regular results?
Thanks in advance!
Daniel,
If your total link you should be passing the SubTtotal report field value - ReportItems!MySubtotal.value and not the Fields!MyMatrix.value.
I hope this helps.

|||Thanks for your reply, Carl.
The problem is that the matrix only has one field on which to create the navigation... the data field. The total field is generated automatically, so I don't see how it's possible to creating a unique link for the total itself. If there is a way, please tell me how.

Yes,

The report field values are meaningless as parameters, though. What I really am saying when I click on the 63 is: "Show me a list of all Full Professors, Associate Professors, and Assistant Professors who are Male."

|||I have finally figured this out and I though I would pass it on to anyone who needs it in the future.
The best way to deal with this situation is
1) On the sub-report, for a multi-valued parameter, make every option the default. So in my example, the default for the Job EEO would be Full Professors, Associate Professors, and Assistant Professors and the default value for Gender would be both male and female.
2) On the first report, only pass the parameter if its value is in scope. This is accomplished by editing the Omit property of the parameter you are passing... setting it to something like: =Not(InScope("matrix1_Gender"))
This means that if there is no distinct value for the gender, the parameter will not be passed. The subreport will then show data for both genders because that is the subreport's default.
If making every option in a subreport's parameter the default doesnt' work for your needs, there is another way. On the parameter that's being passed out of the first report, you can edit the expression to something like this:
=Iif(InScope("matrix1_Gender"), Fields!Gender.Value, Split("Male,Female", ","))
This, translated into English, says, "If you clicked on a field related to a specific gender, then send that gender to the subreport. Otherwise, send both Male and Female to the subreport."

This, translated into English, says, "If you clicked on a field related to a specific gender, then send that gender to the subreport. Otherwise, send both Male and Female to the subreport."
|||Thanks !It works !
Navigation of reports
Is it possible to navigate to another report on click event of tree node.Hi,
It is not available, but you can make it using some technique. i.e you can
simulate the tree view using the catalog table where table names are stored
and give an "Action" for jumping to other reports.

names.
then on the report layout you can use "action" from the properties of the
table cell.
give "Jump to report". Ofcourse lot of formatting should be done for tree
view.

Navigation not working after clicking once
Recently we have new reports with graphs...when clicked on detail for graph
I have to open another report detail in a new window. I have created a
link(naviagtion URL property for textbox ) in the main graph report to open
the detail report link as
="javascript:void(document.open('/ReportViewer/ReportFrame.aspx?rptPath=REPORTPATH&args="
& REPORTPARAMETERES &
"','_blank','left=50,top=50,width=800,height=580,menubar=no,resizable=yes,scrollbars=Yes,status=yes,toolbar=0'))"
Issue 1 :
The link is working fine for the first time. When I click the link for the
first time...the new window opens fine with the detail report...but when i
close the new window(detail report) and click the link nothing happens,no
report open..why. Also if i keep the new window(of detail report) as is
without closing and then click on the link again in the graph report...one
more new window opens up with the detail report...
Why does the link not work when i close the new window and re-click the link
Issue 2 :
I am trying this...
The window we open the report in contains frames..and we open the report in
the lower frame...how can i get the new detail report to open in the same
frame.
I tried using '_self'...but with this the new detail report is open on the
main IE page where our actual application is been open.
Any suggestions to get it working as I wish it tooo...would help.
Thanks.
SKI am still stuck on this...
I am doubting this is some kind of setting issue or what
I changed the URL link to simple
= "javascript:void(window.open('http://www.google.com','_blank'))"
even this ...when i open it for the first time it works fine...but when i
close the new window the link does not work anymore...
fyi : we are deploying the reports in PDF format...any issue with adobe !!!
I get a security warning saying document is trying to open a link...but
nothing opens after the firsttime '
any ideas....

It sounds kind-of-like your browser settings are not allowing pop-
ups.
Regards,
Enrique Martinez
Sr. Software Consultant|||Thanks EMartinez for the reply...
But no I have tried that...by allowing any popups...
It seems really strange...I think it has something to do with adobe
reader...no idea what?
The link opens fine for the first time...the second time i click ..nothing
happens except i get the security errror from adobe reader saying the
document is trying to open the link bla bla. The link works fine when the
window opened the first time is kept open!Whyyyyy

Navigation in a Graph
passing the label value(eg. on x-axis) as a parameter to another report.
So for example, lets say i have the days of the week as my x-axis values in
the graph. Is there any way to allow the user to click on this label
value(eg. monday) which will then pass this as a parameter to another
report?
ThanksNot from labels themselves, but you can do this with data points. Pull up
Chart Properties dialog in report designer -> Values -> Edit -> Action tab.

Hello
I have a link on the header to jump to another report. It was working fine on test server but when deployed to production, is giving the followin error. Any suggestions
Thanks

|||Make sure to install SP2 of SSRS 2005 on the server (http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/sql/2005/downloads/servicepacks/sp2.mspx) and drillthrough links in page header/footer should work.

Navigation buttons Dimmed
Anyone know why my navigation buttons on my reports is always dimmed so that I can only see the very first page of every report? I even spent some time with a Microsoft SQL Server engineer trying to figure this one out and he wasn't able to figure out why?
I tried to attach a picture but I guess pictures aren't allowed. The first page, previous page, next page and last page buttons displayed as arrows on the top left of the reports are always dimmed on every report even though they have multiple pages.
Has this happened to anyone and how did you get it fixed?
Thanks
Anybody?|||Hello,
Between the navigation buttons, does it show "1 of 1", or does it show the actual page count for the second number? Can you manually type in another page number and navigate that way?
Jarret
|||It's completely dimmed. In other words, I can't even type in a page number. It says "of 0". To make it even more interesting, if I go to the report from http://machineName/reportserver instead of http://machineName/reports; it works fine. There are 44 pages.
This has got me completely baffled.
|||Bump. I guess I'm going to have to use another of my MSDN phone incidences? I guess no one else has run into this problem?Navigation buttons
Is there a way to add the navigation bar with next page, previous page etc buttons at the bottom of the report. If the report is long the users dont want to scoll up to click on next page.
There is no easy way to accomplish this. It can not be done in Report Manager. If you are writing your own web app you could do this by writing your own tool bar, but it would require quite a bit of code.|||Thank you Daniel.
